Frequently Asked Questions for the NSW Owner Builder Course
Q. I have completed an OHS Course or already have my OHS white card. Do I have to still do the OH&S Module?
A. If you already have the OHS White Card, that simply means you can start the Owner Builder Course straight away, which consists of Modules 1 through to 5. The OHS White Card and the OH&S Module ( which also covers Occupational Health & Safety, but at a higher level ) are NOT the same thing. In NSW, every student without recognised prior learning exemptions MUST complete ALL FIVE (5) Modules of the Owner Builder Course.
Q. Am I able to do the course online?
A. Yes, however the new course involves 660-pages of study Materials and Assessment questions for 5 separate Modules. Completing the course through a 'Workshop' will not only benefit you more educationally, but with the face-to-face assistance from our trainers, you will be able to complete the course within a week.
Q. Will there be refreshments served during the course, or will there be a lunch break where participants go their own way?
A. Tea and Coffee are provided on each day of the workshop and there will be a short break during the course.
Q. What, if any, materials should participants bring to the course.
A. We will provide all materials that you need for the workshop course.
Q. Is there parking facilities at the course venue?
A. Yes there is plenty parking available at the venue that our workshop courses are held.
Q. Will participants still be issued with a 'Statement of Attainment' at the end of the workshop course, or will these be posted out?
A. Given that we will still need to assess your work after the workshop is complete, upon successful completion of the course you will receive your 'Statement of Attainment' either on the final day or by post.
Q. Do I have to do the course again if I decide to begin a new project?
A. No, once you have successfully completed the course, the Owner Builder Course 'Statement of Attainment' is for life. You just need to apply for a new permit to the Office of Fair Trading.
Q. How long does the OH&S Induction 'White Card' last for?
A. Indefinitely, unless the law changes.
Q. Can I transfer from a Correspondence Course to the Workshop Course?
A. Yes, we will allow you to simply pay the cost difference in the course fees and transfer you into one of our Sydney based Workshops.
Q. Can I transfer from a Workshop Course to a Correspondence Course?
A. Yes, however, we will retain $100 administration fee, due to having already booked and paid for your spot in the workshop. Any additional remaining amount that you have paid to us will be refunded to you.
Q. How many hours does the exam run? And how many exams are there?
A. For the workshop course there are FIVE Assessment Booklets (one for each Module). It may take approximately 2 hours to complete the assessments. You can take the assessments home to complete and bring them in on the final day. For the correspondence course version (online or hard copy), you have the flexibility to complete the assessments online or email, fax and post them back to be assessed.
Q. If I fail with one or more of the exams, can I do it again? How many chances do you get?
