1.02 How many pairs are required?

A good rule of thumb is one pair 1.5 metres from the end of the ridge line for each section of roof, and subsequent pairs evenly spaced approximately 4.5 metres apart, with the final pair approximately 1.5 metres from the other end. The average home may require between 2 and 4 pairs of these 'ventilation' Units. This product is designed and made in Australia.

Think of a pot in which you are steaming vegetables. To keep more steam in, you create a small opening with the lid. To allow more steam to escape, you allow a larger opening of the lid. So be aware, the 'venting' of your Roof Space will be more effective by erring on installing more pairs rather than less.

You can either leave your unit in their original Zincalume form, paint them yourself or choose a colour from our extensive range of powder coating colours ( see below).

Factory applied powder coating will be the most permanent finish, resisting the effects of being exposed to the external environment and more resistant to the heat and the damaging effect of infrared rays from the Sun. Due to the extreme and variable external conditions, there is no warranty on the powder coating.

When organising the timing of your order, please be aware that each week on a Monday or Tuesday we take the products requiring powder coating to the factory, and are usually available for us to dispatch on the Thursday or Friday of the same week.

There is a minimum cost of $55 incl. GST. if only 1 x unit or 1 x pair of units is to be powder coated. For orders with more than 1 x pair to be powder coated is charged at $44 per pair incl. GST.

Corrugated Tile Dimensions
Corrugated ventilation roof unit dimensions

These strong and hollow 'ventilation' units are made in Australia from high quality strong 0.55mm base metal thickness Zincalume by Bluescope.

In the manufacturing process, laser cutting equipment is used to achieve clean edges and accuracy.

The units can be installed in any roof with a pitch of 12 degrees or more.

1.07 Benefits: How they work, SAVE you money and reduce green gas emission

The Benefits

Installing an appropriate number of pairs of these 'ventilation' units, based on the size and configuration of your roof will:

  • Silently keep your home or building cooler in Summer and Warmer in Winter.
  • Keep your hidden roof space drier in Winter with less damaging condensation being formed.
  • Reduce your need to cool or heat your home or building, thus providing real savings in energy bills.
  • Reduce your consumption of matters that cause 'green house gases' to be produced.
  • Contribute practically and positively to reducing global warming.
  • Experience maintenance-free and energy consumption free benefits as they have no moving parts.
  • Enjoy a virtually inconspicuous solution. They can be powder coated to match the colour of your roof.
  • Using a special Adaptor, connect the flexible ducts from your kitchen and bathrooms vent systems.
  • In Bush Fire prone areas they can be used with the optional Stainless Steel mesh to be fitted over vent outlet.
  • If you have or plan to install air conditioning, these 'ventilation' products will help reduce your need to use your system. Also imaging how much more taxing it is for a ducted air conditioner in the Roof Space to be trying to work in a hot oven environment in Summer or in an Ice Box in Winter. How much more electricity will it require to operate? With electricity costs to rise by 30% in the years ahead, this is a wise investment which will save you dollars and also contribute to reducing green gas emissions.
  • By installing a few pairs of these ventilation roofing products, the chances of fungi developing in your roof space are significantly reduced. Additionally your home will be even cooler in Summer and warmer in Winter. In winter there will be less potential for condensation to build up to damage your home.

Sydney Morning Herald Article
An important article published by the "Sydney Morning Herald" September 2009

How they work

  • Sarking is installed in roofs as a thermal barrier to reduce heat entering, but it is an insulation barrier containing air in the roof space.
  • Ceiling insulation is intended to reduce the passing of heat or cool, by conduction, between the living spaces and roof space.
  • When ceiling insulation is installed in a roof with sarking, the roof space temperature increase by up to 20 degrees Celcius!
  • Sarking and Ceiling insulation perform the same function of insulation in the walls, top and bottom of ovens and refrigerators.
  • When air remains trapped in the roof space in Summer with nowhere to escape, the air gets hotter and hotter as with an oven.
  • When air remains trapped in the roof space in Winter with nowhere to escape, the air gets colder and colder as in a refrigerator.
  • When air is trapped the roof space in Winter, condensation is created with direct water damage and fungi grows (read Article above).
  • Convection is air movement created when hot air rises and can escape when cooler air can enter.
  • As this product works because of the Convection Principle, unlike traditional protruding 'birds', these work when there is no breeze!
  • The Venturi Principle is that when there is a breeze for example, passes over an opening it draws air from that opening.
  • The'ventilation' units are installed in pairs, one unit is for the air to enter the roof space, the other is where the air can leave.
  • A series of pairs of 'inlet' and 'outlet' ventilation Units are simply installed under the ridge capping and on either side.
  • With sufficient pairs of Corrugated 'ventilation' units installed, your home or building will be more comfortable with lower energy bills.
Installed corrugated ventilation units on roof
With these 'ventilation' units installed, no longer a home whose hot tin roof traps and builds up significant heat in the Roof Space, giving you a more comfortable home or building all year round.

1.08 Optional: for Bushfire prone areas, stainless steel mesh fitted

During a bushfire, embers may reach your home or building 30 minutes before the actual fire may arrive. Pieces of smouldering material float through the air and if a spark or ember enters the home, it can cause ignition of combustible materials. Your house may not be in the path of the fire but may still be ignited from flying embers.

For homes or buildings in bushfire prone areas who have or propose to use Corrugated or Colorbond metal roofs, it is advisable to have the optional stainless steel mesh fitted to the external perforated outlets to satisfy the building requirements in these areas of special building and compliance needs.

A stainless steel mesh (using rivets) is installed over the entry or exit openings of the units. The openings of this non-combustible mesh are less than 1.8mm in diameter, which complies with bushfire requirements. This 'mesh' has been shown to the ACT Rural Fire Service who were satisfied with it's construction and specification.

If your home is located in or near a bushfire prone area, be sure to consider this stainless steel mesh along with your 'ventilation' roof product.

Price for: Stainless steel mesh fitted to outlet, $12.00 incl. GST.
