These Queensland Owner Builder courses are recognised by the Queensland Building Services Authority as fully meeting their requirements for the issuing of a QLD Owner Builder Permit.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Before commencing, you will need to already possess an OH&S White Card, or to undertake and successfully complete the Work Safely in the Construction Industry CPCCOHS1001A course, sometimes also known as the 'White Card'. This is a compulsory unit that is required along with obtaining your Owner Builder Statement of Attainment certificate.

About Owner Building in Queensland.

Under the Queensland Building Services Authority Act 1991 (QBSA Act), it is compulsory for home owners that wish to perform or coordinate domestic building works on their property for a single project to the building works value of $11,000 or more, that they must hold an Owner Builder Permit, which can only be issued by the Building Services Authority (BSA).

A Permit can not be issued for construction or renovation of multiple dwellings, dual occupancy dwellings or commercial premises (e.g. duplexes, town houses, boarding houses, shops, industrial buildings, farm buildings etc).

Examples work for which an Owner Builder Permit must be obtained:

  • Construction of a new home (single dwelling only)
  • Renovation or alteration to an existing dwelling
  • Extension or addition to an existing dwelling
  • Constructing a garage, carport or domestic shed
  • Swimming pools
  • Pergolas / entertainment areas

The Owner Builder Statement of Attainment certificate is valid for up to five (5) years from the date of issue on successfully completing the course.

Owner Builder Permits issued by the Building Services Authority are valid for up to six (6) years from the date of issue.

The 2-day Workshop Course is held over a weeknend (Sat & Sun) at venues in South Bank - Brisbane and Santa Barbara - Gold Coast, with workshop classes running once a month.

To apply for an Owner Builder Permit in Queensland you must provide the following:

  • A completed Application Form signed by all owners or company directors.
  • Payment of the appliction fee ( $312.25 ).
  • An original or certified copy of a current title search or registration confirmation statement no older than 30 days.
  • Proof of Identity.
  • Proof of a completed Owner Builder Course (Statement of Attainment Certificate).

Course Provider Cancellation

Should any workshop course be cancelled by the course provider, participants are entitled to a full refund or transfer of funds to a future course.

Medical or Personal Hardship

Applicants who are unable to complete a self-paced course and can provide a medical certificate or extreme personal hardship may be granted a refund.

An applicants failure to ensure their computer meets the minimum specification is not grounds for a refund.
